How to Approach Your 2019 SEO Strategy

We are almost closing in on 2018 and it is almost time to start planning on how things should start unveiling in the next 2019. You’ve done your SEO for this year and you got the results out of your actions, regardless if they were positive or negative. Now it’s time to start thinking of how you should proceed with your strategy after you finish with all of the celebrations. Here are some of the things you need to examine based on your performance so far before you lay out your strategy for the next year.

Analyze Performance So Far

How long have you been doing SEO? Did you start in 2018 or even prior?

If you were doing SEO in 2017, the first thing you want to do is compare the performance of your website in 2017 and 2018. What has changed? Did you get ranked better? How did that reflect on your revenue? What have you done in 2018 that was different than 2017 and what effect did it have? By comparing your website performance in terms of SEO historically, you can highlight the mistakes and eliminate, you can pinpoint the practices that worked and implement your findings in your 2019 SEO strategy.

If you just started doing SEO in 2018, you need to evaluate your actions and estimate what worked best for you and what was a complete waste of time. Analyze the finding and adjust your 2019 strategy accordingly.

Analyze The Targeted Keywords

Did you target the right keywords in 2018? One way of looking at that is by going yo Google’s keyword planner and re-examine the volumes. The targeted keywords should follow your goals i.e. if you are looking to increase sales you need to focus on keywords that people would search for if they are determined to make a purchase. If you are looking to increase traffic through blog posts, then make sure you are targeting the right informational keywords that people would normally search for while doing their research.

Set Your SEO Goals

Your entire content marketing strategy will mostly depend on the things you are trying to achieve as we previously mentioned in relation to keywords. When it comes to setting goals, using the S.M.A.R.T. framework is the right way to go. Your goals need to be:

Specific: Your goals should not be too broad because if they are you will lose focus easily.

Measurable: You need to be able to measure how your strategy is performing.

Achievable: Don’t set impossible goals that even you know it would be hard to achieve. Be realistic.

Relevant: Your goals need to be relevant to what you are trying to achieve.

Time-dependent: Set a time frame for each goal because if you don’t things might drag on more than they should

Now it is the right time to start planning your 2019 SEO strategy. Reflect on past efforts and experiences, take the things that works for you in the past years and focus on them. SEO takes a lot of experimenting in order to find what works best for your business, so if you manage to find your right formula, your 2019 SEO strategy should surpass the results you got in 2018.
